Jodi F. Abbott, MD
attended medical school Hahneman University in Philadelphia,
PA. She completed her residency at Tufts University
Affiliated Hospitals in Boston, MA. Her post residency
work was done at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
in Philadelphia, PA. Currently she cares for patients
at the Boston Medical Center specializing in obstetrics
and gynecology. Dr. Abbott serves on the Medical Advisory
Committee and participates in many Lupus Foundation
education events.
Laurie A. Adelstein,
MS, OTR/L received her Master of Science
degree at Boston University. She is the Director of
Occupational Therapy at Westborough State Hospital where
she helps individuals with serious mental illness face
the daily challenges of living with a persistent illness.
She began her involvement with the Foundation in 1996
when she began raising money at the annual Walk on the
Charles. She continues to serve on the Walk Committee.
Laurie is Vice Chair of the Board, Chair of the Nominating
Committee and also serves on the Education and Outreach
Committee.
Bonnie L. Bermas, MD is a rheumatologist
at Brigham and Women's Hospital where she serves as
Director of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Lupus Center
of Excellence. She earned her medical degree at Mount
Sinai School of Medicine and completed residencies and
fellowships at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center,
Brigham and Women's Hospital and National Institutes
of Health. Over the past several years, Dr. Bermas has
participated in several Lupus Foundation educational
events.
Michael E. Bigby, MD
is a dermatologist on staff at Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center and has a special interest in autoimmune
skin disorders. He is also an Associate Professor at
Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bigby attended Harvard Medical
School and completed a fellowship in immunology there.
Dr. Bigby is a past President of the Lupus Foundation.
Currently, he is Chair of the Board and serves on the
Medical Advisory, Nominating and Finance Committees.
Patricia A. Fraser, MD, MPH
completed her medical education at Columbia University
College of Physicians & Surgeons, and fellowships
at Robert Bent Brigham Hospital. Dr. Fraser is Medical
Director, Pharmacovigilance/ Medical Affairs at Genzyme
and practices rheumatology at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Dr Fraser is an outstanding and caring physician who
cares for many people with lupus. She has a passion
for learning why lupus disproportionately affects African
American women. She was the recipient of a grant to
look into the possible environmental factors that may
trigger lupus in Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan and
continues to seek answers to how best care for people
with this disease. Dr. Fraser is Secretary of the Board
and serves on the Medical Advisory and Nominating committees.
Karen S. Kaufman, MS, CCN
is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Skidmore College and
received her Masters of Science in Human Nutrition from
the University of New Haven. Karen has a special interest
in integrative health and wellness. She pursued this
career path after developing lupus in 1990. She enjoys
helping people with chronic diseases make lifestyle
changes that can significantly improve their quality
of life and their prognosis. Karen has published numerous
articles and lectures on various nutritional topics.
She serves as Treasurer of the Board and serves on the
Education and Outreach Committee.
John T. Kerrigan Jr.
is Executive Vice President of Grubb & Ellis Company,
one of the largest national commercial real estate firms.
Jack has been involved with many Lupus Foundation events
for several years. Jack received his MBA with distinction
from Babson College and graduated Magna Cum Laude from
Boston College. In 2006, Jack was the Altruism Award
winner and he has participated in the Lupus Foundation
Golf Tournament for more than a decade. Jack currently
serves on the Gala committee and is committed to bringing
heightened awareness to lupus.
Lynne M. King has
been an active member of the Golf Committee for several
years, recruiting foursomes and helping with photography
for the day. Ms. King is the founder of Things 4 Kings,
an on line distributor of education products and teaching
materials. She is deeply committed to the lupus cause
through her sister Lee McGraw, former chair, who has
lupus. Lynne is Chair of the Development Committee.
Elena M. Massarotti, MD
is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical
School and Director of Clinical Trials in the Lupus
Center at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is a general
rheumatologist with special interests in lupus, rheumatoid
arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and vasculitis and divides
her professional time between direct patient care, medical
education of students, house officers, and fellows,
and clinical research investigating new therapies. Dr.
Massarotti serves on the Medical Advisory Committee
and is a frequent speaker at Lupus Foundation programs.
Robert J. Zarrella, MBA
is a software engineer at Cisco Systems. Rob and his
wife, Linda, who has lupus, have been active in Lupus
Foundation programs for several years. Rob and Linda
are members of the New Hampshire Walk committee and
the Development Committee. Rob is particularly interested
in providing more lupus education and awareness in New
Hampshire. Rob serves on the Finance Committee.
